Abstract
Cellulases, the third-largest industrial enzyme, has significant applications across a plethora of industries, including food, textiles, pharmaceutical, detergent, biofuels, and paper. Owing to the abundance of cellulose in nature and its applicability in various industries, the demand for cellulases is always on the rise. Over the last few decades, significant efforts have been made towards the industrial utilization of cellulosic biomass, with a primary focus being development of cost-effective and efficient enzymatic technologies. This review highlights the critical consideration of the industrial use of cellulases, including sources and methods of production of enzymes, the market value of cellulase in the enzyme industry, current industrial applications of cellulase, and recent research developments around industrial cellulases.
