Description
In response to requests from teachers who completed the SusNet continuing professional development survey, a nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) workshop for teachers and students was held at Aberystwyth University. The event was organised in collaboration with the CWPSI at Aberystwyth University and the Royal Society of Chemistry. It included a two-hour teacher session, student workshop and a free networking lunch for students to find out more about careers in chemistry.During the workshop the students worked in small groups and use multiple spectroscopic techniques to identify a number of organic liquids. Teachers were able to increase their confidence with teaching spectroscopy during a workshop with academics from Aberystwyth and Cardiff Universities on NMR spectroscopy.CPD for Chemistry teachers. The Centre of Widening Participation and Social Inclusion are running the Salters Festival of Chemistry event for year 7 and 8 students. We are working with them to offer the Chemistry teachers who attend the opportunity to take part in interactive sessions delivered by 3 research chemists: Dr Ifat Parveen Senior Research Scientist and Lecturer in Chemistry- Green Biotechnology; Dr Manfred Beckmann Analytical Research Chemist - Metabolomic Facilities and Professor Luis Mur - Plant Chemistry.Period | 2015 → 2017 |
